Matan Gillon, Developer Of Bochs PSP, Is Back!
If you were following the psp homebrew scene either in the beginning or later on, you would probably know about Windows 95 ported to the PSP using BOCHS. Take a look at this site to refresh your memory. You may have remembered that without his work, Windows on the psp would probably not be possible. It is thanks to a great developer like him that made this possible. He was also going to release the source code on his site, but you may have noticed that he “disappeared.” Truth is, he really didn’t go anywhere and he couldn’t release the source code as planned. His hard drive has crashed causing him to lose most of his work. Fortunately, he has an older version of the source code so developers around the world still have a chance to improve on the source code itself and use it for any projects they may have.
A member of the forum, Angus, has tried to contact Gillon, but didn’t receive any reply. He has explained everything when he came by to the forum. Here is what he has told us in the forum.
Hi, I’m Matan. Yes, the guy who ported Bochs to the PSP. Somebody brought this forum to my attention. It seems a guy called Angus claims I’m dead. He should really work on his Internet research skills. I’m alive and well.
So first I’d like to apologize to anyone who emailed me that I didn’t email back. This was due to several reasons like being overwhelmed by spam emails on my domain, the email server being down for quite a while and my lack of time to provide support for this project.
Secondly, I’d also like to apologize for not releasing the sources. It’s a little embarrassing but I lost the sources to this project in a hard drive crash. However, recently I found an old backup that contains the sources so I’m going to release them in the upcoming days.
Frankly I don’t think the PSP will ever be able to run Windows XP as it could barely support the weight of Win95, let alone Win98. There’s not nearly enough ram in the PSP for that. Using virtual ram (like a file on the flash drive) might work, but it would be so slow there’s no chance it will be usable. But hey, stranger things have been done. So good luck all.
Btw, if anyone makes an update to the Bochs port I’d be happy to provide the hosting for it.

It is great to hear from one of the major developers again.

I hope it was the real Matan.
If he registered then I would have believed him because all I would have to do is verify his email address.
